Wooden
Window, Inc. thanks all of our esteemed judges for making a lasting impact
in preservation and restoration of buildings in our neighborhoods. The
panel of judges included experts from the fields of design, preservation
and construction. Although coming from diverse backgrounds, all have one
thing in common; their appreciation for beautiful windows.
Throughout
the Bay Area and Northern California, ugly windows have crept into neighborhoods
to change the original charm and beauty of many landmark areas. In choosing
the “Ugliest Window”, the panel considered the look and design of the window,
but also its’ impact on the overall architectural intent of the building.
At
the award ceremony, the judges were there to see the winner announced.
Buzz Leer did double duty as judge and Master of Ceremonies of the event.
Cindy Heitzman and Naomi Schiff both met with the winners and were very
pleased with the results. Paul Winans of Winans Construction, Inc., came
early and helped with the Jazkatz staging. Alice Carey wasn’t able to attend,
but along with the other judges contributed much more than just an opinion.
Thanks again to the judges and hope to have them all onboard next year!

Buzz Leer

Buzz Leer, host of HGTV’s House Detective, pursued an acting career in Los Angeles after growing up in Minneapolis. After a few television commercials and endless auditions, he started a career in sales and marketing and found success in vice president of sales positions for several home furnishings companies.
Leer also designed retail stores and restaurants. His design work led to the actual building of spaces, where he honed his handyman skills for several years. Leer moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where he continued to work in sales and marketing but never lost his love of performing. He landed several national and local television commercials, radio voice-overs and print modeling work while raising four children.
In addition to his role as a "soccer dad," his hobbies include travel and sports. Leer says hosting House
Detective has been a new beginning and a dream come true. He and his family continue to reside in the San Francisco Bay area.
